Paraphrase
Each day brings new beginnings along with it.. So at the beginning of each day I must make my own decisions. There are different paths lying before me; but to choose the road on which to travel, is solely my responsibility.
From those different roads lying before me,
I can choose the road of life that leads to great success. Or else, I can travel down the path of evil (=darkened) which leads to great worry and strain (=distress).
In the third stanza the speaker of the poem (the teenager) directly addresses the Almighty God (Lord). He pleads to the Lord to open up his eyes so that he might see clearly. He also prays to God to help him stand for what is right and to bring out the best in him.
The speaker goes on to seek God's help to enable him to say 'no' when he is faced with situations where he may overcome by a strong desire to do something bad or wrong. The speaker also prays for God's blessings so that he might keep his body clean and fit to face the challenges of life each day.
In the final stanza the speaker concludes that by the time his/her teenage years are over, he/she will surely know the truth that the life lived very best is always the one which is lived under the constant guidance of Almighty God (=with you walking next to me).
कवितेचा भावार्थ
एका किशोरवयीन बालकाची प्रार्थना
येणारा प्रत्येक दिवस एक नवी सुरुवात घेऊन येत असतो. या प्रत्येक दिवशी मी जे काही करीन त्या सर्व गोष्टींचे निर्णय मलाच घेतले पाहिजेत. माझ्यासमोर अनेक पर्याय असतील, अनेक वाटा मला दिसतील, मात्र त्यातली कोणती वाट निवडायची हे माझे मलाच ठरवायचे आहे.
मी निवडलेला माझ्या आयुष्याचा मार्ग (निर्णय) मला उत्तुंग यशाच्या शिखरापर्यंत पोहोचवेल किंवा कदाचित अपयशाच्या/ अधोगतीच्या वाटेकडेही घेऊन जाईल, परंतु त्या निर्णयाची जबाबदारी पूर्णपणे माझी असेल.
हे देवा, या जगात ज्या चांगल्या गोष्टी आहेत त्या पाहता, अनुभवता याव्यात अशी दृष्टी मला दे. जे योग्य आहे, न्याय्य आहे, त्यासाठी ठामपणे मला उभे राहता यावे आणि माझ्यातील सर्वोत्तम गुणांना योग्य दिशा देता यावी यासाठी मला मदत कर.
एखादया मोहाच्या क्षणी अथवा कठीण प्रसंगी माझ्याकडून अयोग्य वर्तन घडू नये यासाठी ठामपणे नकार देण्याची देवा मला हिंमत दे आणि आयुष्यातील आव्हानांना सामोरे जाण्यासाठी माझे शरीर (आरोग्य) मी कायम उत्तम, निरोगी ठेवू शकेन यासाठी शक्ती दे.
किशोरवयाचा हा काळ सरताना मला खात्री आहे की तुझी साथ असेल, तुझे आशीर्वाद पाठीशी असतील तर आयुष्याची वाटचाल अतिशय सुखद आणि सुकर होऊ शकते याची मला सदैव जाणीव असेल.
